A Community of Learners |
Finally, the weather is starting to cooperate and the kids can get outside and burn off their winter energy. It is hard to believe that there are only three months left of school. It has been a long, cold winter.
Math
In math this month the morning group will be exploring measurement as well as practicing numeracy skills. You can support your child's learning by having them measure items around the home using measurement tools such as tape measures, rulers, or scales. It is so important to make basic skills automatic to ensure future success in math. Here are some website links to support your child's learning:

Grade 6 students will be focusing on measurement as well as preparation for the EQAO test which will take place at the end of May/ early June. The focus of the preparation is to learn necessary computer skills as well as how to fully answer and think through multiple step questions. Here are some websites to help yourself and your child become familiar with EQAO testing:

Language
This month we will be beginning our Poetry Unit of Study. The morning group will explore different types of poems and write many of their own. Grade 6 students will begin a unit of study on figurative language and practice using similes, metaphors, hyperboles, etc. and include these figures of speech in their everyday writing consistently.
Congratulations to Hala who won March's Character Counts Award for Responsibility.
