It has been a busy January and things are finally starting to slow down a bit so we can catch our breath! I am constantly thankful for the students I have and their love of learning. We may get frustrated at times or lose our momentum, but we always pull through with a laugh and a smile. February may be a short month but we have plenty planned.

In Language, we will be doing another round of DRA assessments to see how far we have come (AM group only). We will be learning about persuasive writing and working on summarizing more. We will focus our reading on both fiction and non-fiction guided reading stories. The afternoon group will soon begin their third novel of the year 'Hatchet'. We will also explore finding evidence for our answers in a text and persuasive writing.

The PM class will be continuing to work on fractions and decimals before moving onto 3D Geometry. The grade sixes will begin to answer weekly EQAO questions as their Minds on Math as preparation for the EQAO test which will take place in May. Working on such questions individually and then sharing our answers with the group will help us to understand a variety of ways in which we can apply the strategies we have learned to the test. Familiarizing ourselves with the type of questioning seen on the EQAO test will also help to reduce test anxiety. Here are some websites to help your child build their math skills.
