It is great to be back to school and back into our routines! We are so excited to have new friends in our classroom and are all being very helpful and welcoming. Already we are becoming a strong team of learners!
As you know we have already begun our Word Work quizzes. Every Monday your child will receive a new list of words to learn. They should practice spelling these out each night. I suggest going in order from top to bottom and then return to the top. By the second night you can have your child practice writing them out with pencils, markers, or even with just their finger on table or in the air. This movement helps to create connects in their memory. If you have a tablet their are really fun, free apps such as Blackboard Mobile Learn or Fingerpaint Magic which allows your child to write using their fingers.
Language and Math
In Language this month we are focusing on Guided Reading in small groups, Story Elements (character, plot, setting etc.), and completing our initial reading assessments. In Writing we are focused on grammar and punctuation as well as completion of daily journals and applying our knowledge of self-editing to proofread and revise our work. This practice will lay the foundation for future Writer's Workshop activities and portfolio creation. All students have a purchased Raz-kids account for daily reading online. Your child can simply got to www.raz-kids.com and use the password MissBilton to access their account. Raz-kids can be accessed on a tablet through a free downloadable app only.
In Math this month we are learning about patterning. Here are some online links to help your child practice:
